Shogun won't be punching Rashad in the dome...yet!

Recently posted by MMAweekly;

Rashad Evans earned a return shot at UFC gold when he defeated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 114 in Las Vegas last month. He’ll still get the shot, but just a little bit later than he might have anticipated.

UFC president Dana White on Thursday revealed that Evans’ next opponent, light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, had to undergo knee surgery following his win over Lyoto Machida at UFC 113.

He had the surgery in L.A. He’s gonna do all his therapy in Vegas. So he’s gonna be in Vegas for the next five weeks,” White told MMAWeekly.com.

There was a question, however, as to when Shogun suffered the injury.

White said, “He needed (surgery) after the fight. He got hurt in the fight.”

It was brought up that “MMA Live’s” Franklin McNeil had reported on speculation prior to the Rua vs. Machida fight that Shogun had a knee injury entering the fight.

He’s got a knee problem now, and he got it fixed,” White said, addressing the issue. He added, “He had a bad knee after the fight.”

Shogun will undergo the aforementioned five weeks of rehabilitation in Las Vegas, then start looking towards a date with Evans.

White told MMAWeekly.com that he was unsure when Shogun would be clear to return, but indicated that it wouldn’t take long, pointing out that Shogun had his appendix taken out four weeks prior to the Machida fight.

Until then, Rashad Evans will sit tight and enjoy a little extra time with his family.

Turn up your headphones: Here's a verbal brawl

Have you ever been on a conference call?  This one is a little different.  Rashad Evans vs. Rampage verbally bash the hell out of each other.

UFC president Dana White confirmed earlier talk that the winner of the May 29 grudge match will be the first to challenge the promotion's newly minted light heavyweight champion, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.

"I did commit to the winner (of UFC 114) getting a title shot," White said during an action-packed conference call promoting the event, which takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

UFC 114 Primetime: Rampage vs. Evans Episode 1

UFC 114: RAMPAGE VS EVANS will be held Saturday May 29, 2010 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will air live on PPV with a headlining light heavyweight bout between heated rivals Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad Evans. Jackson and Evans were originally supposed to fight after the conclusion of The Ultimate Fighter Season 10, where they coached against each other, but the fight had to be delayed after Jackson landed a movie role in THE A-TEAM, playing B.A. Baracus, a character made famous by Mr. T on the original 1980's television series.

This premiere episode of UFC PRIMETIME: RAMPAGE VS EVANS debuted on Spike TV to a record 1.2 million viewers with an 0.9 overall rating. This represents a 20-percent increase in viewers over the last installment of UFC PRIMETIME for Georges St. Pierre vs Dan Hardy at UFC 111. Two more episodes of UFC PRIMETIME: RAMPAGE VS EVANS will air over the next two weeks, leading up to the UFC 114 PPV on Memorial Day weekend.

RUMORS and possible match-ups!

There are so many freakin UFC's coming up, it's a little redick.

There are some interesting confirmed match-ups coming up....with the long awaited fight between rival UFC stars Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 114 (May 29th) and even sooner than that we have Mauricio Shogun Rua facing for the 2nd time, "The Dragon" Lyoto Machido at UFC 113 on May 8th!  These two cards look awesome!

There have been some rumors flying around of some interesting match-ups though...here they are;
  • Alessio Sakara (a KEKAI MMA favorite) might be confirmed to soon face Michael Bisping.
  • BJ Penn is also rumored to return to the Welterweight division with the UFC.  He still faces Frankie Edgar on April 10th in UFC 112 (Abu Dhabi).
  • Also news has hit that after James Irvin's loss last week, IF he is in fact not released from the UFC...which he has not yet been....he won't return to the middleweight division.
  • According to a French MMA publication, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has completely made up with Dana White and he has signed a new 6 fight contract with the UFC.
  • It was common knowledge that Dan Hardy's stomach tattoo was photoshopped out on some promotional posters....nobody knew why however.  News has just hit that it is because White is trying to get into China and didn't want any "anti-Chinese government stuff on my fighters"
To be continued......
