AFTER SILVA, SONNEN WANTS GSP OR SHOGUN
Chael Sonnen is still swinging his verbal hammer, and now he's laying the smack down on the UFC's reigning welterweight champion. With a rematch against UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva set to go down in early 2011, Sonnen already has his sights set on what would be next, assuming he gets the belt.
And his sights are set on another UFC champion.
Speaking to fans in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday, Sonnen was asked who he would want to fight if he beat Silva and without hesitation the Oregon native gave a firm and direct answer.
"GSP," Sonnen said emphatically. "GSP had better pray to heaven above that Shogun accepts my challenge cause one of those guys is getting beat up."
St-Pierre seems to have caught the attention of Sonnen, as did the UFC's current light heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Currently, St-Pierre is awaiting his fight on Dec. 11 against Josh Koscheck, while Rua is recovering from injuries and is expected to face Rashad Evans in the first half of 2011.
While St-Pierre has never backed down from a challenge, he's also never had much to say about Sonnen who is outside of his weight class of 170 pounds. If the moment ever did arise where St-Pierre would call for a fight with Sonnen, the pound-for-pound verbal champion has a few words for the Canadian.
"If GSP said he wanted to fight me, the first thing I would say is the same thing I say every time I hear GSP talk, 'God dangit that guy sounds like a French-Canadian Minnie Mouse.' That's the first thing I'd say," Sonnen quipped.
"Then I'd say 'hey GSP, let me ask you a serious question. Do you have a designated driver? Do you have someone to get you home safely? Cause clearly you're intoxicated.’ I would say, ‘GSP, do you have a hankering for pain? GSP, did you lose a bet with God? GSP, bring your $3,000 suit, bring your $3 date, and get that 3 cent tan beat off your socialist back.’ That's what I would tell GSP."
Sonnen has never been one to hold back his tongue, and just in case GSP didn’t hear his comments, he was happy to make sure someone would pass it along.
"If you see GSP, you give him that message from me," Sonnen shouted.
What St-Pierre did to get under the skin of Sonnen is unclear, but he appears to have an issue with the UFC's 170-pound champion that he wants to settle in the Octagon. As far as weight classes go, Sonnen is quick to point out that he wouldn’t be challenging for the welterweight title, but he's happy to meet in the middle.
"In fairness, I couldn't get to 170," Sonnen said. "I could get part way down there if we wanted to do a catch weight, if it was something like that."
As far as fighting Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Sonnen has no issues going back to his former weight class for a shot at that belt.
"I could certainly go up to 205. I used to be a 205-pounder. Joe Silva moved me down to 185. He said 'this is a better weight' and I've competed there ever since," Sonnen admitted.
Whether Chael Sonnen ever actually faces St-Pierre or not is a story for another day, but he's certainly made his intentions clear.
First things first though, Sonnen has to defeat Anderson Silva.

A light heavyweight showdown between former UFC champions Lyoto Machida and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has been widely reported recently, although no official confirmation has come from the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Machida has since confirmed the bout via his Twitter account saying, “My next fight is confirmed and it's (going) to be against Rampage.”
He added that a date has yet to be solidified, but noted that the bout would likely “be in the end of the year.”
In follow-up to this story, the bout will take place on Nov. 20, although the location doesn’t appear to be set. A November UFC event in Germany has been rumored for quite some time, but most likely it will take place in the U.S.
Machida’s confirmation comes just days after Jackson confirmed that he was about to sign a bout agreement for his next fight, although he didn’t reveal the opponent.
The bout is pivotal for both fighters. Machida, in his last fight in the Octagon, lost his UFC title in a rematch with now-champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 113. Jackson lost a decision to Rashad Evans at UFC 114.
Evans will challenge Shogun upon the champion’s return from knee surgery.
Machida and Jackson are still fighting at the top of the division and need to avoid successive losses to stay there.

Lyoto Machida ready to come back!
(article by Damon Martin - MMAWeekly.com)
The last time Lyoto Machida stepped in the Octagon things didn't go his way.
Facing Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in May, Machida fell victim to the Brazilian's power and suffered a TKO loss, the first of his career, while also losing the UFC light heavyweight title.
Now back in training, Machida looks back at the fight with a clear mind, and says that now he's seen it all as a fighter, and that's only going to make him better.
"He told me now he feels like a complete fighter," said Machida's manager Ed Soares when appearing on MMAWeekly.com Radio. "He knows what it's like to win, he knows what it's like to be a champion, and now he knows what it's like to lose. He feels like a complete fighter, and I know without a doubt he's going to come back a better fighter, and it's just a matter of time before he has that belt around his waist again."
As far as a timeline for Machida's return, he's just waiting on a call from the UFC. Currently training alongside Anderson Silva, Machida is ready for a return to action, and wants to face the best the UFC can give him.
"He's out here training, we're ready to go right now," said Soares. "He's ready to fight whoever, he wants to fight the best too."
A few different names have been mentioned as possible opponents, including Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Forrest Griffin, while there are others that intrigue the former champion as well.
One name that popped up was former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin, who just knocked out Chuck Liddell in June, and could be looking for a big fight at 205 pounds. Franklin and Machida actually fought in 2003 in Japan in what was Machida's third professional fight.
The Brazilian finished Franklin with a head kick and punches in the second round, and handed the former Cincinnati math teacher his first loss as a professional.
"That could be a big fight," Soares said about a fight with Franklin. "At the end of the day that's the first guy who gave Rich Franklin his first loss, maybe Rich Franklin would like to avenge that. That could be a good fight."
One other interesting fight that Soares mentioned is a possible match-up between Machida and fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort. The former champion has been sidelined with an injury from prior to his previously scheduled April match-up with Anderson Silva, but now he's back healthy and looking for a fight.
"You know what I think would be interesting is how about a Vitor Belfort?" said Soares. "Vitor Belfort/Lyoto Machida? I think Vitor now will get another fight before he fights Anderson Silva. Put it this way, anything can happen, you never know."
Of course the ultimate fight that Machida wants is another run at Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. The pair is currently tied with one win each, and Machida would like nothing more than to take back the title from the man that took it from him.
"He'd love to fight Shogun again," Soares commented. "It's 1-1 now, you know what I mean? Let's fight it again. But he'll fight whoever. When the UFC is ready, they'll give us that shot. We'd love to fight him right now, but whoever the UFC gives us is fine."
Whatever the match-up is, Lyoto Machida is locked and loaded, and ready to fight.

Chuck Liddell.....IS NOT DONE!
Atleast he hasn't made his mind up......and he's not letting other people decide for him!
Kevin Iole from Yahoo Sports writes;
LAS VEGAS – Chuck Liddell says his fighting career isn’t over yet, despite yet another knockout loss in his last fight.
Liddell, the former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion and the most popular fighter in the promotion’s history, said Saturday during “The Ultimate Fighter Finale” at the Palms Casino that he was pleased with his performance against Rich Franklin in the main event of UFC 115 on June 12 at General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Liddell, 40, was knocked out by a counter shot from Franklin with five seconds left in the first round. It was Liddell’s third loss in a row and fifth in his last six matches. He’s been knocked out in four of them.
After being finished by Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 97 in Montreal on April 18, 2009, UFC president Dana White said Liddell was through fighting. But Liddell wanted to fight and talked White, his former manager and close friend, into giving him another shot.
Liddell did a stint on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and didn’t so much as hit mitts for six months. He came into the Franklin fight in the best shape he had been in for many years. He was doing well in the fight until he overcommitted on a right hand and Franklin blasted him with a perfectly placed counter shot that knocked him cold.
He said he had the stitches removed from his upper lip and his left eyebrow on Friday and, other than a still very black left eye, looked good. The cut on his lip came from the final punch, while the cut on his left eyebrow came as a result of a clash of heads with Franklin during a takedown.
Liddell said he feels fine and is mulling his options.
“I’m still working on evaluating,” Liddell said. “I thought I did great before I was caught. I have to look at it some more and think about it. I think I looked good and I definitely was in great shape. I could have kept that pace up for another four rounds, without a doubt.”
Liddell said he has few regrets. He noted that the reason he became so popular as a fighter was his aggressive style, one in which he constantly was looking for the knockout. Little changed in the fight against Franklin and Liddell likely would have won the first round on the judges’ cards if the round had been completed.
Had he been more under control and not firing so wildly, he would not have been out of position and wouldn’t have been hit with the shot that knocked him out. That, though, isn’t Liddell’s style.
“It’s hard to beat that [aggressiveness] out of me, because that’s who I am and that’s who I’ve been for a long, long time,” Liddell said. “People like watching me because of the way I fight, so it’s hard to get me not to fight that way.”
Liddell said he hadn’t spoken to White, though they did exchange text messages. He said he has spent time with his children and his girlfriend, Heidi Northcott, since returning from Vancouver.
He didn’t put a timetable on a decision, but said he’s going to take his time and make the best decision.
“There’s a lot still to think about,” Liddell said. “I felt pretty good and I think showed I can compete. I’m not going to rush and I’ll do what I think is best. I’m just not at a point to make that decision yet.”

Shogun won't be punching Rashad in the dome...yet!
Recently posted by MMAweekly;
Rashad Evans earned a return shot at UFC gold when he defeated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 114 in Las Vegas last month. He’ll still get the shot, but just a little bit later than he might have anticipated.
UFC president Dana White on Thursday revealed that Evans’ next opponent, light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, had to undergo knee surgery following his win over Lyoto Machida at UFC 113.
“He had the surgery in L.A. He’s gonna do all his therapy in Vegas. So he’s gonna be in Vegas for the next five weeks,” White told MMAWeekly.com.
There was a question, however, as to when Shogun suffered the injury.
White said, “He needed (surgery) after the fight. He got hurt in the fight.”
It was brought up that “MMA Live’s” Franklin McNeil had reported on speculation prior to the Rua vs. Machida fight that Shogun had a knee injury entering the fight.
“He’s got a knee problem now, and he got it fixed,” White said, addressing the issue. He added, “He had a bad knee after the fight.”
Shogun will undergo the aforementioned five weeks of rehabilitation in Las Vegas, then start looking towards a date with Evans.
White told MMAWeekly.com that he was unsure when Shogun would be clear to return, but indicated that it wouldn’t take long, pointing out that Shogun had his appendix taken out four weeks prior to the Machida fight.
Until then, Rashad Evans will sit tight and enjoy a little extra time with his family.

Machida may require orbital surgery following UFC 113 beating from Shogun
Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida may require surgery to repair a fractured orbital he suffered at the hands of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 113, according to his manager Ed Soares.
“He does have a slight hairline fracture, and the reason why it puffed up is the doctor said there was air that got in, and that’s why it fills up,” Soares told MMAJunkie.com.
In the highly anticipated rematch of their controversial UFC 104 bout, Shogun knocked Machida to the canvas with a crisp right hook late in the first round before sealing the deal with a barrage of at least eight undefended ground blows. The damage left Machida’s left eye severely swollen.
“You have almost like a seal with your orbital, and when you have a little hairline fracture and you blow your nose, it just fills up with air,” said Soares. “It’s nothing too major. He may have to have surgery; he may not. It’s up in the air right now.”
No schedule has been set for the return of the former UFC light heavyweight champion.
