MAIA VS BELCHER HEADS UFC FIGHT NIGHT 22

reported by mmaweekly....

Demian Maia and Alan Belcher headline UFC Fight Night 22 on Sept. 15. The event, which takes place at the Frank Erwin Special Events Center on the campus of The University of Texas in Austin, serves as the lead-in to Season 12 of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Maia (12-2) is coming off of a five-round battle with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 112 in April. He is currently ranked No. 5 in the world and regrouping for another run at the title.

Belcher (15-5) faces Maia following a Submission of the Night performance in his victory over Patrick Cote at UFC 113 in Montreal. He has long been a crowd favorite, but has yet to tip the scales in his favor for a shot at the belt.

“The Ultimate Fighter 6” winner Mac Danzig returns in the co-main event to rematch Matt Wiman. The two fought at UFC 115, where Wiman was awarded a controversial submission victory. The referee stopped the fight with Danzig caught in a guillotine choke, but Danzig was clearly conscious when Wiman released to hold.

Other bouts on the UFC Fight Night 22 telecast include a lightweight fight between “The Ultimate Fighter 5” alum Cole Miller and “The Ultimate Fighter 9” winner Ross Pearson, and Jim Miller battling Gleison Tibau in another 155-pound bout.
